FORBES LGA: 2016 FLOODS
2016 – Of Droughts and Flooding Rains
Widespread flooding occurred throughout the Forbes Shire during the spring of 2016 as floodwaters moved down the Lachlan River and other tributaries. A detailed account of these floods is available from the Bureau of Meteorology here. Rainfall throughout the Lachlan Catchment during September was the highest since 1970 with the Lachlan River peaking at 10.67 metres in late September (ABC News, 2016). Following on from these floods an exceptionally dry winter and spring occurred throughout New South Wales, including the Forbes Shire during 2017. September rainfall across NSW was the lowest recorded.
